Shapes and Opinion Writing

WOW! What a September! So much paper work for the 1st nine week mark. Now back to uploading all the fun stuff! The kids have learned about being an illustrator and the fundamentals of writing. Now we are starting on the writing process. Students brought in their favorite toy and completed their graphic organizer today. They loved it!

To end the day we did our math groups. Students in my group helped me make an anchor chart to review all polygons. Students then made 2D shapes using popsicle sticks for the sides and Halloween gummies for the corners. They are going to go wild when we did the food sort on Thursday!

Phonics Dance

I live by this dance!! My class last year helped me make up a whole dance to this song. My kids think of it as a brain break but it's so effective! When my kids are reading I will hear them get to a word and whisper their song for the chunk. I will upload a video very soon!!

Different Forms of Water

The kids get so excited about doing this! They get to  experiment how water transforms from a solid, liquid, and gas. We created this quick anchor chart. (I am not a drawer!) Of course  I used gas as their mom's making mac and cheese on the stove. :)  They each got a few ice chips. Their hands represented the suns heat. They had so much fun!

Read to Self/Someone Baskets

Every year I buy new small reading rugs or bean bags for read to self. It has added up quite quickly. Also students in first grade sometimes have a hard time with proximity of space. So for read to self and read to someone I saw this cute idea! The kids sit in their basket with the pillow and a whisper phone. My students LOVE it! If they are reading the someone the baskets go next to one another and the book goes in the middle of them. After reading groups students stack the baskets and put the whisper phones on top. I'm loving this and they are super presh in those baskets.

Pinterest is such an obsession! I saw this and had to do it!!

Open House was a success! I had my parents come right in and sign in.

Of course, I wanted to offer parents a gift first. As they signed in they were offered a mint.

Then what every parent loves....open house paperwork. Parents were directed to find their child's name on the purple folder. Once they completed paperwork they were to place it in the teal bucket and find their child's desk for a treat.

I had to add several stickers to cover up my students name. On the desk students found their D.O.T. book, Open House foldable, Open House paperwork to fill out at home folder, Magic Confetti, and a beach ball for their present.

Before parents left they got to grab an apple from the giving tree!

I love Open House! I got to see many of my former students and ALL of my new students! I can't wait to see what this year brings!!

Hard Worker Caddy

I got this from my firstie team member The Elementary Darling and couldn't help but not to copy the idea! Each day a new student will get the caddie that worked hard the previous day. It holds scissors, glitter glue, markers, twistable crayons, and an assortment of pencils.

D.O.T. book (Daily Organizational Tool) Binder

I have always used a communication folder for my room. Last year I used the D.O.T book to communicate with my parents. I absolutely love it ! The front is super cute!

Once parents open it they will find the rules for the D.O.T. book and the label "Return to School"

Next parents will find the homework folder. I have a cute label picked out but I don't have my students names yet... Inside the homework folder they will find their reading log and spelling tic tac toe. I found these at Target for 50 cents!

Students will also have a behavior calendar in the back. Students will color in their circle on what color their clip landed on for the day. Parents will sign this daily.

Lastly, "Work to keep at home" label. I check the D.O.T book every morning during morning work.
